SCW started in November of 2021 by owner Marvin Tijerino Jr. a long time wrestling fan and a true student of the overall business. In 1998 Marvin walked into a wrestling school located in Milpitas, Ca Headed by Bay Area legend himself Jason Styles and shortly there after I would meet Bay Area legendary promoter Mr. Kirk White who was starting out with Big Time Wrestling. After being in training for months Marvin made it to Referee because in the old days you would have to work "security" and referee for 6 months until you were ready for your first match, it's just how it was done. I was fortunate enough to be around Jason styles, Shane Kody and promoter Kirk white in the early days of me being involved in the business. I got to watch what would be a great promotion in the making first hand and it was awesome.
A full in ring run never developed because of lack of time to dedicate to training and going to shows but the relationship with Kirk and Jason would keep on and eventually started working the shows by taking promo photos at the shows! First of its kind! I was going to the tv studio in Fremont, Ca where they taped BTW and taking pictures squeezing in backstage where I could but for me aside from taking pictures was being around the guys and backstage, never missing a moment and just taking in the knowledge like a sponge. Mr. kirk White ran a tight ship led by his 2 top starts Shane Kody and Jason Styles as Lockeroom leaders. One thing I learned about this business is that there will be "fallouts" with talent but at the same time they say time heals wounds and it seems to be that way. I never had a huge fall out with Kirk I just didnt consistantly stay in the loop and he didnt like the coming and going to much if at all.
In 2015 I came back to Kirk and asked him if I could tape a show to use some new equipment I had purchased, he said yes after all it didn't cost anything, just staying out of the way this turned into a pretty serious production going as far as airing on KOFYtv20 weekly! This turned out to be a huge project as making 52 weeks of wrestling is the hardest thing to do, not only did we have the live taping at the shows but also we had a studio portion to do where Dragon Dave and Tom committed to taping weeks worth of shows in one sitting at the studio and then I had to take all that and put it all together in time for it to air on tv, If i missed the time then it was a costly mistake and she we managed not to miss!
The one thing that has to be understood is the amount of learning I did from everything across the board and putting everything to the test! including but not limited to patience and even though it was unpaid at the start eventually I was able request some payment for our efforts but needles to say payment also came in the form of knowledge, after the initial 52 week commitment to the tv station was complete we still taped shows but produced them straight to dvd in house by your guessed it, me! but again it was a learning curve.
I early 2018 I looked for my own space to expand a little but that led to kirk being unhappy about me leaving my month to month sublease I had with him at his school. So after going our separate ways we did not work together ever again and by 2021 I wanted to be involved in wrestling and thus Southbay Championship Wrestling was born and with the help of my trainer and his ring the first show in my hometown of Milpitas, Ca took place and the rest is history.
We now have a home at the S.E.S. PORTUGUESE HALL in Santa Clara, Ca and we have grown very much and hope to continue for many more years bringing the most talented local pro wrestling and Lucha Libre athletes California has to offer.
